Frequently asked questions
How much does Stripe charge per transaction?
For US accounts, Stripe charges 2.9% + $0.30 per successful online card payment. International cards add 1.5%, currency conversion adds 1%, and manually entered cards add 0.5%. ACH Direct Debit costs 0.8%, capped at $5.00.
How do I calculate Stripe fees manually?
Multiply the amount by 2.9% and add $0.30. On a $100 charge: $100 × 0.029 + $0.30 = $3.20 in fees, leaving you $96.80. Add any applicable surcharges (international, conversion) to the percentage first.
How much should I charge to receive an exact amount after fees?
Gross up with: charge = (desired amount + $0.30) ÷ (1 − 0.029). To net exactly $100 you would charge $103.30. The "I want to receive…" mode of this calculator does this for you, including surcharges.
Does Stripe charge extra for American Express?
No. US Stripe pricing is the same 2.9% + $0.30 for all major card brands online, including Amex.
Are Stripe fees negotiable?
Yes, at volume. Stripe offers custom pricing for large or unique businesses. Many merchants processing serious volume also lower their effective rate by routing payments across multiple processors and their own merchant accounts.
